You may be eligible for a Habitat home if you meet the following guidelines:

  1. You have a need. (over-crowded, unsafe, unsanitary, high rent, etc.)
  2. You have the ability to pay the mortgage (at 0% interest).
  3. You are willing to partner by contributing 250 hours of sweat equity.
  4. You must currently live in Dyer County (for the past six months) and be a registered citizen of the United States.
  5. Total household income must be a steady income of at least $24,000 per year.
  6. Your total household annual income may not be more (per HUD 2022 income limits) than the following for a family of: 

     

                   (1) $35,350

                   (2) $40,400

                   (3) $45,450

                   (4) $50,450

                   (5) $54,500

                   (6) $58,550

  7. Your present home must show a concern for cleanliness which will indicate your willingness to maintain a Habitat home.

  8.  You will have at least $2,000 for your down payment, closing costs, and utility hookup fees at the closing of your new home.

    Applicants must pass the income guidelines and a financial credit check to move forward with the application process.  A criminal background check will be conducted as part of the full application process.

    The entire process can take nine to twelve months (sometimes longer) from the time you put in an application to the closing of the house.
